Furniture Give-Away (FGA) Donation Opportunities

What Items Can I Donate? 

  • Furniture (that 2 normal people are able to carry)
  • Study desks (#1 wanted item)
  • Loveseats and couches
  • Beds and metal bed frames (without head/foot boards) – twin, double & queen
  • Chairs
  • Bookshelves
  • Dining tables
  • End tables,
  • Coffee tables
  • Dressers
  • Floor lamps
  • Household items (carriable with 1 hand): Pots, pans, utensils, plates, cups, mattress covers, linens (bedding, kitchen & bath), pillows, desk lamps, and small appliances (e.g., countertop microwaves, vacuum cleaners, coffee makers, teapots, rice cookers & toasters).

Items We Do Not Collect

  • Items needing more than 2 people to carry
  • Desks over 4 feet long
  • TVs, entertainment centers
  • Futons, sleeper sofas
  • Waterbeds, king-size beds
  • Head/footboards
  • Large appliances
  • Broken electronics
  • Decorations
  • Glass furniture (e.g., mirrors)
  • Other household items; garage items;
  • Badly stained, smelly, dirty, soiled, moldy, and unrepairable items.

Please clean all items before donating them.

FGA Donation of Food

We welcome donations of grab-and-go bagged food items to be served to students, scholars, and volunteers during the Furniture Giveaway.

FGA Financial Donations

We are collecting FGA donations and asking for sponsorships. If you want to give to support the related work of this ministry you can donate directly to International Friendship Ministries (IFM) or contact Elan Rajamani (812.327.9587)

New Hope for Families in Bloomington is open 10 AM–2 PM Mon-Fri at 301 W. 2nd St. (812.334.9840) – Will accept cleaning supplies, disposable diapers, paper products, children/baby clothes, dishes, etc.

Hannah Center in Bloomington is open Mon & Wed 9-11:30 AM,1-4 PM; Tues 9-11:30 AM,1-6 PM; Thur: 9-11:30 AM at 808 N. College Ave. (812.334.0104) – Will accept baby clothing & supplies & supplies for women. Includes strollers, high chairs, car seats (<6 yrs old), and toddler beds. Please call first.

St. Vincent de Paul in Bloomington is open 11 AM–1 PM Tues & Thur at 1999 Packing House Rd. (812.961.1510) – Will accept furniture & appliances. Pickup by Appointment.

The Salvation Army in Bloomington opens 10 AM–6 PM Mon-Sat at 115 N Rogers St (812.334.1366) – Will accept vehicles, clothing, furniture, household items, appliances & non-perishable food. Pickup Available.

Opportunity House in Bloomington is open 8:30 AM–3 PM Mon-Sat at 907 W 11th St. (812.336.2443) – Will accept housewares, clothing, antiques, collectibles, sporting goods, toys, linens, small furniture, small appliances, books, and magazines.

Habitat for Humanity ReStore in Bloomington is open 10:30 AM–5:30 PM Tues-Fri & 9:30 AM–4:30 PM Sat at 850 S Auto Mall Rd. (812.331.2660) – Will accept appliances, housewares, building materials, tools, lighting, etc. Pickup Available

Hoosier Hills Food Bank in Bloomington is open 9 AM–5 PM Mon-Fri at 2333 W Industrial Park Dr. (812.334.8374) – Will accept non-perishable food items.

JB’s Salvage, a scrap metal recycling company and junk car buyer in Bloomington open 8 AM–5 PM Mon-Fri & 8 AM–12 PM Sat at 1803 West Fountain Dr. (812.332.0606).

Goodwill in Bloomington is open 9 AM-9 PM Mon-Sat at 512 S College Mall Rd. (812.331.8170) and 1284 S. Liberty Dr. (812.336.8104) – Will accept everything except mattresses & tube TVs.

Monroe County Solid Waste Recycling & Disposal in Bloomington is open 7 AM–6 PM Mon-Wed & Fri-Sat at 400 West Dillman Rd. (812.349.2020) or 7:30 AM-5:30 PM Tues-Sat at 3400 South Walnut St. (Hazardous Waste Facility) – Will accept almost everything including mattresses, except chemicals & paint except on specific dates. Tube TVs, CRTs, etc. = $20 cost. See details.

IN Solid Waste Management District Programs for electronic waste disposal like computer equipment including display monitors. Some like Dell even take other manufacturers’ items at no cost and with free shipping.
